How to check if a cannabis shop is licensed
Use the government's MC-GIS map or the Mor Prom app to confirm a Thai cannabis shop is licensed, spot the warning signs, and report illegal sellers.
Thousands of cannabis shops have closed since 2025, and some that are still open are not licensed. Here is how to check before you buy.
1. Check the official map (MC-GIS)
The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine runs the Medical Cannabis Geographic Information System (MC-GIS).
- Go to cannabis-gis.dtam.moph.go.th, or open the government's Mor Prom app.
- Find the shop on the map or search by name.
- A shop only appears if it holds valid licences to sell and process cannabis and is operating normally.
If the shop is not on the map, do not buy there.
2. Look for the licence at the shop
Licensed shops must display their licence clearly and be able to show their electronic licence to inspectors. The government is also rolling out shopfront stickers that show the licence status and expiry date.
3. Watch for warning signs
A legal shop will:
- ask for your PT33 prescription before selling flower
- check that you are 20 or older
- refuse to let you smoke on the premises
- sell in person only
Be wary of any shop that:
- sells without a prescription
- offers delivery, LINE orders or online sales
- sells edibles without Thai FDA labelling
- is next to a school, temple, dormitory or public park
4. Report illegal sellers
You can report suspected violations through LINE @traffyfondue. DTAM says it follows up on these reports and has inspected well over a thousand cannabis businesses in 2026.
How we use this on Bangkok Ganja
Our dispensary and clinic listings show where each detail came from and when we last checked it. We cannot see live licence data for every shop, so please confirm on MC-GIS before every visit, especially as more licences expire through 2026 to 2028.
